The Smoky Mountain area is full of family activities that will help make your family reunion the best ever! Magnificent 7 has a notebook containing an extensive collection of brochures from these and other attractions. And with wireless internet available, you can research the next day's activities before you go!
The best reason to visit the East Tennessee area is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Whether you delight in the challenge of a strenuous hike or prefer to sit quietly and watch the sun set, the National Park offers a wide range of activities. The hardest part may be choosing which one to do first:
Exploring Historic Buildings
Horseback Riding at Cades Cove is a must for the horse enthusiast, and the horse trails in the Smokies are considered among the best in the East. Cades Cove also offers hayrides and carriage rides.
Parrot Mountain is a delightful bird sanctuary and probably the most overlooked attraction in the area. Stroll along quiet pathways through beautiful gardens and watch the lorikeets, mackaws, toucans, and cockatiels. Kids love the special petting zoo, where they can pet baby birds and watch them being hand-fed.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is an 8-mile driving tour through the Smoky Mountain's lush forests and historic past. Learn the story of those who settled the mountains while you drive through their natural beauty. Cascades, rapids, and waterfalls parallel the road, and the roaring sound of water is ever present.
Action and Adventure
Dollywood is a family-oriented amusement park with great shows, thrilling rides (including a full-sized steam train), traditional crafts, regional music, festivals, and kiddie rides. Dollywood is also the site of the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame.
Dollywood's Splash Country is a water park that combines the beauty of the Smoky Mountains with the excitement of water rides, ranging from a relaxing tube float on the Lazy River to the thrilling Big Bear Plunge.
Gatlinburg Aquarium is a world-class aquarium with over 10,000 exotic sea creatures. Travel through the world’s longest underwater aquarium tunnel, pick up a horseshoe crab, come face to face with a giant Pacific octopus, and learn about underwater sea life.
Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort offers eight ski trails serviced by two quad and one double chairlift. Ice skating is available year-round in the enclosed mall, with shops and dining surrounding the rink.
Helicopter Rides are available throughout the area and offer a wide range of services, from breathtaking rides over the Smokies to aerial weddings services. Be sure to bring your camera!
Shopping and Dining
Tanger Outlets include Coach, Fossil, Gymboree, Limited Too, Aeropostale, Reebok, Van Heusen, Calvin Klein, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Old Navy, and many others. Buy direct from the manufacturer and save!
Hard Rock Cafe. Whether you're in the mood for a quick burger or a rich dessert (or both), the Hard Rock Cafe Gatlinburg provides Authentic Experiences that Rock. And only in Gatlinburg will you find a Hard Rock Cafe with a real wedding chapel.
Variety Shows and Dinner Theaters
Black Bear Jamboree tells the story of the Black Bear Jamboree. This Smoky Mountain lore has it that once a year, every black bear in the region heads to a secret mountain cave to celebrate with music, food, and dance. And dinner includes the best Southern Fried Chicken in the area.
The Blackwood Breakfast Variety Show features southern gospel music, hilarious comedy, and a delicious all-you-can eat breakfast buffet. The Blackwoods are an award winning gospel family that will inspire and dazzle you with uplifting songs of faith as well as old fashioned fun.
These are just a few of the very many fun and educational activities in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountain area.
